The University of Michigan seeks a visionary and experienced Chief Pharmacy Officer/Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs to lead the Department of Pharmacy Services and provide strategic direction, leadership, and management of pharmacy services across the statewide system of care.
Key Responsibilities- Direct Health System Pharmacy Services: Oversee the provision of contemporary pharmacy services to inpatients and outpatients through highly reliable, safe, and efficient medication use systems, direct patient care services, collaboration with other healthcare providers, and education of health science school students and other trainees across the continuum of care.
- Develop and Implement Strategic Vision: Develop and implement a strategic vision for pharmacy services that aligns with the organizational strategy, ensuring the integration of the missions of the University of Michigan Health and the College of Pharmacy.
- Leadership and Management: Recruit, retain, and develop a highly skilled professional staff, ensuring staffing meets patient care needs, and oversee the design, implementation, and management of a safe and effective medication-use system.
- Financial Management: Develop an expense budget of approximately $1 billion and monitor financial performance, ensuring the efficient use of resources.
- Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaborate and partner with the medical and nursing staffs in a multidisciplinary manner, and work closely with the Dean and Department Chair and health system administrators to balance and integrate the missions of UMH and the College of Pharmacy.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and national regulatory bodies, and oversee and ensure systems for the safe and secure storage and distribution of controlled substances.
- Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or Master of Science degree required; completion of residency in health system pharmacy administration or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimally ten years of progressively responsible senior health-system pharmacy leadership in an academic medical center or complex health system, with involvement in the training of pharmacy students and residents, and a substantial record of scholarship and teaching.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Current license to practice as a Pharmacist in the State of Michigan, effective communication and mentoring skills, demonstrated success leading projects and initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and service levels in a complex healthcare environment, and ability to develop and implement a strategic vision for pharmacy services.
