Main Responsibilities:

The Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners is tasked with overseeing the practice of dentistry within the state. This role is pivotal as it leads the Board's Licensure Unit, which is dedicated to the licensing and certification of dental professionals. The primary responsibility is to ensure that the application and licensure processes are executed efficiently, meeting the needs of licensees while adhering to specific deadlines.

This position involves extensive interaction with various stakeholders, including dentists, dental hygienists, dental radiation technologists, and dental assistants. A thorough understanding of the Board's licensure regulations is essential. The role also requires regular communication with the public and health-related institutions, such as hospitals and insurance companies, which engage with the Board's licensees.

The employee will serve as the Licensing Coordinator, operating with a high degree of autonomy. This leadership role includes supervising staff involved in the licensing processes for dental health care providers. Responsibilities include training team members on licensure procedures and regulations, as well as determining eligibility for various dental licenses.

Key Duties Include:

  • Overseeing all activities related to the Board's licensing process, including administrative functions.
  • Responding to inquiries from licensees regarding licensure processes and continuing education requirements.
  • Reviewing applications for dental and dental hygiene licensure and granting licenses as authorized by the Board.
  • Delegating responsibilities for specific licenses and permits.

The Licensing Unit is committed to ensuring that only qualified practitioners are authorized to practice dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental radiation technology in Maryland.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of three years in administrative or professional roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in program management and goal setting.
  • Leadership experience in supervising a team.
  • Skills in drafting reports and making recommendations.

Licenses and Certifications:

Employees may be required to operate a motor vehicle and must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license.
