The main responsibility of the Sales Engineer - Industrial Automation at Ohio Transmission Corporation is to conduct sales activities within a specified region by engaging with both potential and existing accounts as outlined by the company. This role involves securing and managing sales agreements for MRO and OEM products and services, representing our comprehensive product line to select clients. The Sales Engineer is tasked with discovering new business prospects, cultivating and overseeing a sales pipeline, and driving business growth to meet or surpass annual sales targets. Establishing robust relationships across customer organizations, including purchasing, maintenance, facilities, safety, reliability, and engineering departments, is crucial for ensuring optimal customer satisfaction and revenue generation.


To excel in this role, you should be a proactive individual who enjoys identifying and nurturing both existing and new accounts. A current presence in the market would be advantageous. This position emphasizes expanding our full range of products and services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all facets of external sales within a designated territory.
  • Develop and sustain business relationships with key clients in that area.
  • Establish long-term connections with customers, including at the executive level of major accounts.
  • Set targets and objectives, generating revenue through market development, forecasting, lead generation, qualification, and closing sales.
  • Enhance the existing sales base through consistent performance, building rapport with current and prospective clients; articulating product and service capabilities; addressing objections; preparing proposals and quotations. Provide solutions and become a trusted resource for your customer base.
  • Collaborate with other Product Specialists, Customer Service teams, and Engineers to share information and identify opportunities, qualifying accounts to expand product sales.
  • Work alongside factory representatives to increase revenue of key product lines.
  • Continuously learn about new products based on key vendor initiatives and identify additional value-added opportunities.
  • Conduct sales calls, product demonstrations, and other developmental activities to enhance market share of preferred channel partners.
  • Maintain and submit activity reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A technical college degree or a minimum of three (3) years of experience in industrial distribution sales or a combination of relevant experience.
  • Possess technical and/or mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: Machine Control, Motion Control, Safety, Robotics.
  • Ability to utilize skills to resolve customer issues and support sales personnel.
  • Proven track record of achieving year-over-year sales growth targets.
  • Ability to set personal performance standards under minimal supervision.
  • Capability to identify market potential by qualifying accounts.
  • Strong sense of urgency and accountability.
  • Proven skills in building customer relationships.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to comprehend written and spoken English and be proficient with computers, email, spreadsheets, and online document retrieval.
  • A strong team-oriented attitude with the ability to work effectively in collaborative settings with associates, customers, and vendors.
  • A commitment to the principle of "doing it right the first time".
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Aptitude for reading parts manuals, vendor catalogs, understanding blueprints, and effectively communicating technical information.
  • Must be able to work in an industrial and manufacturing environment as required.
