Job Summary

New England Cancer Specialists is seeking a Per-Diem Patient Care Coordinator to work in our Scarborough office. The Patient Care Coordinator position is responsible for scheduling and coordinating all internal and external appointments and procedures for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule appointments for patients either by phone or in person, following all scheduling guidelines.
  • Work within electronic medical records to ensure all appointments are scheduled to match physician/clinician availability with patient's preferences.
  • Complete all non-clinical orders entered in patient charts, including appointment types, lab visits, molecular testing, imaging, and hospital admissions.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally to patients and staff, accurately conveying all necessary instructions for upcoming appointments, scans, or procedures.
  • Return all phone calls by the end of the same business day.
  • Communicate consistently and frequently with provider lead teams about changes to or affecting patient care plans.
  • Maintain provider calendars, ensuring all changes are reflected in EMR clinic schedules.
  • Assist in training new staff and assist administrative/physician staff during peak times, vacations, and illnesses.
  • Sort and route incoming mail and faxes, scanning records into EMR as needed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited program for Medical Assistant or Medical Secretary Certification preferred.
  • Minimum one year prior clerical and/or Medical Secretary experience in a healthcare field, oncology experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and application of medical terminology required.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical record systems required.
  • Exceptional customer service experience required.
