Position Overview

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking dedicated Full-Time RN Care Managers, also referred to as Nurse Navigators, to collaborate with physician-led teams. Candidates with a background in oncology are preferred, but RNs with experience in emergency departments, acute care management, or a strong interest in oncology are encouraged to apply. We are open to training committed RNs who are eager to expand their knowledge in this field.

The RN Care Managers/Nurse Navigators utilize their oncology clinical expertise to provide personalized care to patients, families, and caregivers, guiding them through the healthcare continuum. Their responsibilities include conducting nursing assessments and triaging patient care needs both over the phone and in the office. They offer valuable advice and support to patients while also communicating patient needs and recommended interventions to physicians.

NECS is a private medical practice consisting of a team of oncologists and hematologists dedicated to serving the community across multiple locations. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals facing cancer and blood disorders. As an affiliate member of the Dana-Farber Cancer Care, we strive to deliver exceptional care and comprehensive support to every patient.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to facilitate patient scheduling and care coordination.
  • Assist physicians with patient assessments and evaluations.
  • Respond to patient inquiries via telephone, addressing specific needs promptly and notifying physicians of any urgent concerns.
  • Conduct follow-up calls to patients to ensure adherence to treatment plans and assess any changes in clinical conditions.
  • Perform blood draws and other necessary procedures as required.
  • Ensure that follow-up appointments and necessary tests/procedures are arranged for patients.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, ensuring that assessments, treatments, and documentation are conducted safely and effectively.
  • Foster open communication with all healthcare professionals, staff, and vendors.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, educational programs, and community initiatives related to Oncology and Hematology.
  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice and provide insights on clinical policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate care responsibilities among licensed and unlicensed healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrate respect for the dignity and rights of all individuals.

Travel Requirements: Rare.

Weekend Coverage: Occasional participation in weekend urgent care coverage rotation.

Qualifications:

  • Active nursing license in the State of Maine.
  • 2-5 years of professional nursing experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Experience in Hematology/Chemotherapy/Oncology nursing is preferred.
  • OCN Certification is preferred.
  • Must possess ONS Chemotherapy & Bio-therapy Certification or be able to obtain it within three months of employment.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up abilities and the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
