Position Overview:

The F-35 Weapon Systems Software Integration Engineer is responsible for providing comprehensive software engineering support to the Weapons Integration Product Team (WIPT) for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. This role involves planning, coordinating, and assessing all software-related tasks associated with the integration and certification of the F-35A, F-35B, and F-35C weapon systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and oversee software integration activities for F-35 aircraft and weapon systems, ensuring compliance with established requirements and best practices in software engineering.
  2. Collaborate with a team of F-35 Weapon Integrators to evaluate and provide technical guidance, ensuring that software development aligns with standardized processes and meets operational needs.
  3. Maintain oversight of software sustainment for all assigned tasks related to F-35 Weapon Integration, coordinating integration activities with relevant roadmaps.
  4. Track updates to weapon software, providing recommendations for necessary testing to achieve updated certifications.
  5. Review relevant documentation related to aircraft and weapon software, offering engineering assessments and certification recommendations.
  6. Participate in various meetings, including Joint Interface Control Working Group (JICWG) sessions, Program Management Reviews (PMR), and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), serving as the government interface manager as needed.
  7. Assess Developmental Test (DT) flight clearances concerning software functionality and provide recommendations on approval or rejection.
  8. Engage in lab, ground, and flight testing, reviewing test plans and results, and ensuring alignment with data requirements.
  9. Prepare and present monthly updates for F-35 Air Vehicle/Mission Systems briefings to leadership.

Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship is required due to the sensitive nature of the work. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances throughout their employment.

A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related STEM field is required, along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a Weapon or Aircraft Program Management Office.

Applicants should have at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in integrating airborne weapons systems, including expertise in systems/software engineering, testing, and program management.

Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle process and its relevance to assigned weapon systems is essential.

Knowledge of fighter aircraft weapons, practices, and policies is preferred.

Strong analytical skills to gather and assess various weapons program information, coupled with effective communication abilities for presenting recommendations to senior military and government officials, are crucial.

Excellent briefing, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills are necessary for success in this role.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel is expected, approximately 1-2 times per month, with each trip lasting 3-5 days. While foreign travel is unlikely, it may occur.

Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS, is required.
