Position Overview:
The Systems Engineer role focuses on the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Weapons Integration Product Team (IPT), specifically in the domain of stores integration alongside relevant hardware and software development. This position is integral to ensuring effective mission capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate F-35 weapon integration initiatives, acting as the primary contact for all related activities concerning assigned weapon systems.
- Ensure compliance with F-35 System Requirement Documents through diligent oversight of all aircraft and weapon integration tasks.
- Collaborate with Weapon Program Offices to confirm that aircraft integration meets certification standards and aligns with weapon program timelines.
- Participate in Joint Interface Control Working Group (JICWG) meetings, Program Management Reviews (PMR), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), and IPT status meetings as necessary, serving as the government interface manager for designated weapon systems.
- Work with the Stores Certification IPT on various activities, including wind tunnel assessments, ground fit evaluations, environmental testing, and store separation assessments.
- Engage with NAVAIR and Air Force Seek Eagle organizations to guarantee comprehensive analysis is completed to support weapon certification and flight clearances.
- Contribute to aircraft software development to ensure the proper mechanization of weapon functionality.
- Coordinate and engage in laboratory, ground, and flight testing, while reviewing and providing feedback on test plans, procedures, and outcomes.
- Assist in weapon systems analysis related to Weapon Delivery Accuracy, Lethality, and Mission Effectiveness.
- Support planning and estimating for future weapons integration efforts.
- Deliver weekly status updates on integration activities to Weapons IPT leadership, including weapon roadmaps.
- Prepare monthly contributions for F-35 Air Vehicle / Mission Systems (AV/MS) briefings for leadership.
Qualifications:
Due to the sensitive nature of the role, U.S. Citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain necessary program security clearances.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related STEM field is required, accompanied by a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a Weapon or Aircraft Program Management Office (PMO).
Applicants should possess at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in integrating airborne weapons systems, including systems engineering, testing, and/or program management expertise.
Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle process and its relevance to assigned weapon systems is essential.
Knowledge of fighter aircraft weapons practices and policies is highly desirable, along with a military tactical weapons background.
Strong analytical skills to gather and evaluate various weapons program information, make informed judgments, and effectively communicate recommendations to senior military and government leadership are critical.
Excellent briefing, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills are required.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel is expected, approximately once per month (up to twice on occasion), lasting 3-5 days per trip. Foreign travel is unlikely but possible.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS is necessary.
