The Systems Engineer role focuses on the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Weapons Integration Product Team (IPT), specifically in the domain of stores integration along with related hardware and software development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage F-35 weapon integration initiatives, acting as the primary contact for all integration activities related to designated weapon systems.
- Ensure compliance of all aircraft and weapon integration efforts with the F-35 System Requirement Document(s), guaranteeing that the Joint Services receive effective and suitable mission capabilities.
- Collaborate with Weapon Program Offices to confirm that aircraft integration tasks meet certification standards and align with weapon program timelines.
- Participate in Joint Interface Control Working Group (JICWG) meetings, Program Management Reviews (PMR), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), and IPT status meetings as necessary, serving as the government interface manager for assigned weapon systems.
- Work with the Stores Certification IPT on essential activities such as wind tunnel evaluations, ground fit assessments, environmental testing, and store separation trials.
- Coordinate with NAVAIR and Air Force Seek Eagle teams to ensure comprehensive analysis is completed to support weapon certification and flight clearances.
- Engage in aircraft software development processes to ensure proper functionality of weapon systems.
- Coordinate and participate in laboratory, ground, and flight testing, reviewing and providing feedback on test plans, procedures, and outcomes.
- Assist in weapon systems analysis as needed for Weapon Delivery Accuracy, Lethality, and Mission Effectiveness.
- Review and support planning and estimating for future weapons integration projects.
- Provide weekly status updates on integration activities to Weapons IPT leadership, including weapon roadmaps.
- Prepare monthly contributions for F-35 Air Vehicle / Mission Systems (AV/MS) briefings to leadership.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to the sensitive nature of customer-related requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain program security clearances.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a STEM-related field, accompanied by 10 years of relevant experience in a Weapon or Aircraft Program Management Office (PMO).
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in integrating airborne weapons systems, including systems engineering, testing, and/or program management expertise.
- Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle process and its relevance to assigned weapon systems.
- Proven knowledge of fighter aircraft weapons practices and policies.
- A military tactical weapons background is preferred.
- Ability to gather and analyze diverse weapons program information, make informed judgments regarding weapons, and effectively communicate recommendations to senior military and government leadership.
- Strong briefing, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills.
- Willingness to travel once a month (or occasionally twice) for 3-5 days, with foreign travel being unlikely but possible.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS.
