**Role Overview:**

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) plays a crucial role in supporting the surgeon during surgical procedures. This includes planning, administering, and overseeing nursing activities for patients undergoing surgery. The RNFA is responsible for maintaining a safe and sterile environment throughout the surgical process and must adhere to all relevant compliance standards and regulations.

Additionally, the RNFA collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role requires specialized knowledge, skills, and judgment in peri-operative nursing, and the RNFA operates under the supervision of the surgeon during the intra-operative phase. When not engaged in first assistant duties, the RNFA may also perform scrub or circulating roles as needed.

**Key Contributions to the Team:**

Utilizes extensive nursing knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective patient care.

Executes delegated tasks from the physician regarding medications, treatments, and diagnostic procedures.

Familiar with available supplies and equipment, ensuring economical use of time and resources.

Prepares and maintains both sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment, assisting with room cleanliness and supply management.

Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of each patient's surgical procedure in accordance with established protocols.

**Qualifications for Success:**

Experience in Perioperative Nursing.

Completion of an accredited RNFA program (exceptions apply for CRNFA certification prior to 1998).

One to two years of general nursing experience in an acute care environment.

Current RN license in Florida is required.

Preferred: Five years of nursing experience in the relevant specialty.

Preferred: CNOR, CRNFA certifications.
