Main Responsibilities

The Surgical Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Gynaecology will play a vital role within the surgical team, ensuring the following duties are performed to the highest standards:

  • Manage gynaecology surgical patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, collaborating closely with the surgical team.
  • Conduct advanced clinical assessments, initiate care and treatment plans, and monitor disease progression and treatment effectiveness.
  • Serve as a specialized role model and leader for all staff members.
  • Contribute significantly to the ongoing development of services within the Trust and participate in various patient experience and quality improvement initiatives.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Act as a clinical expert within and outside the Trust, sharing specialized skills and knowledge.
  • Handle complex and sensitive information, communicating it compassionately to patients and their families.
  • Network with multidisciplinary colleagues and represent the Trust at regional and national conferences.
  • Maintain effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team and other departments.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • First-level nursing registration.
  • Degree in a relevant specialty.
  • MSc or in progress in a relevant subject.
  • Formal teaching or mentoring experience.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Post-registration qualification in cancer nursing.
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification.
  • Advanced physical assessment qualification.

  • Significant post-registration experience in surgical settings, preferably in gynaecology or oncology.

Skills and Abilities

  • Clinical skills, including venepuncture and cannulation.
  • Experience in a specialized gynaecology or oncology nursing role.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including team coordination and delegation.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and spoken English.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to innovate.
  • Ability to interpret and implement new policies into practice.
  • Commitment to patient and carer involvement in care.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management.
  • Strong decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for liaising with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in managing conflict situations.
