Key Responsibilities:


The Power Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in assisting the GCEC team in ensuring the delivery of safe and reliable energy to our members while maintaining cost efficiency.

This role involves applying technical expertise in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of our electric service systems. The engineer will support the Chief Operating Officer in strategic planning, design, and commissioning of electrical distribution lines, as well as conducting feasibility studies and coordinating various electrical distribution projects.

Internal Collaboration:
Work closely with GCEC team members, particularly within engineering and operations, and engage with representatives from all districts.

Responsibilities include managing the workflow of accurate work orders, system modifications, and conducting impact studies.

Contribute to GCEC's safety culture by ensuring compliance with safe work practices throughout all project phases.

This position may involve supervisory duties.

External Engagement:
Support GCEC initiatives with various stakeholders, including state agencies, military installations, energy cooperatives, auditors, builders, members, and consultants as required.


Principal Accountabilities:

Demonstrate a commitment to GCEC's mission through consistent professional conduct.

Contribute significantly to the design and implementation of GCEC's electric system on military installations.

Develop recommendations for system work plans and conduct technical studies related to major service projects and system enhancements.

Assist in managing the distribution system's substations, which involves data analysis, coordinating equipment replacements, and overseeing operational directives.

Generate reports and documentation related to construction plans, sectionalizing studies, and power requirement assessments.

Ensure compliance with Florida Public Service Commission reporting requirements, documenting system improvements and renewable energy initiatives.

Analyze system issues to troubleshoot and redesign systems for enhanced service delivery.

Oversee the acquisition of easements and right-of-way rights.

Coordinate permitting processes and ensure readiness for inspections, addressing any noted deficiencies.

Ensure all system designs adhere to established standards.

Promote employee development and ensure appropriate training is provided to maintain operational proficiency.


Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Option preferred) from an accredited institution is required. A Master's degree is advantageous.

Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in electric utility distribution or transmission is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: A valid Florida Driver's License or the ability to obtain one prior to employment is necessary. Eligibility for insurance under the Cooperative's automotive policy is required. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable.

Skills: A solid understanding and proficiency in traditional utility engineering modeling software is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is also required.
