Key Responsibilities:

The Power Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in assisting the GCEC team in ensuring the provision of safe and reliable electrical services to our members at minimal costs.

This role involves applying technical expertise in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of reliable electric service.

The Power Systems Engineer will also support the Chief Operating Officer in long-term planning, the design and commissioning of electrical distribution lines, conducting feasibility assessments, and coordinating various electrical distribution projects.

Internal Collaboration:
This position requires close collaboration with GCEC team members, particularly within the engineering and operations divisions, as well as with representatives from all districts.

Key internal duties include facilitating the efficient processing of accurate work orders, system modifications, and associated impact studies.

The engineer will also contribute to the GCEC safety culture, ensuring compliance with safe work practices throughout all project phases.

External Engagement:
The Power Systems Engineer will support GCEC's initiatives with various stakeholders, including state authorities, the Public Safety Commission, military installations, energy cooperatives, auditors, builders, members, and consultants.


Principal Accountabilities:

Consistently exemplifies behaviors that align with GCEC's mission statement.

Plays a pivotal role in the design and implementation of GCEC's electrical infrastructure.

Responsible for developing recommendations for system work plans and conducting technical studies related to major service projects, system enhancements, and conversion initiatives.

Assists in managing the distribution system's substations, which entails data collection and analysis, coordinating breaker replacements, approving switch orders based on load shift analyses, and overseeing the operation of capacitor banks.

Generates reports and documentation related to construction work plans, sectionalizing studies, power requirement assessments, and other feasibility analyses.

Completes reporting obligations to the Florida Public Service Commission, documenting GCEC's system hardening efforts, construction standards, renewable energy interconnections, and other data requests.

Analyzes system issues to troubleshoot and redesign systems for improved service delivery.

Oversees the process of procuring easements and acquiring right-of-way rights.

Coordinates GCEC's construction efforts to ensure readiness for inspections and addresses any noted deficiencies.

Ensures that all system designs comply with NESC requirements.

Fosters employee development and ensures adequate training is provided to achieve the necessary skill levels for operational tasks.

Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — A solid understanding and proficient experience with traditional utility engineering modeling software is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Education — A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Option preferred) from an accredited institution is required. A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.

Experience — A minimum of five years of experience in electric utility system distribution or transmission is preferred.

Certification/License — A valid Florida Driver's License or the ability to obtain one prior to employment is necessary. Must be eligible and remain insured as a driver under the Cooperative's group liability policy. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable.
