The Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) at The Aerospace Corporation is recognized as a premier engineering firm and a scientific authority in electronics and cybersecurity tailored for space systems.

We are seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer (Engineering Specialist/Senior Engineering Specialist - Cyber Security Architecture and Information Systems Security) to support our clientele in a flexible work model. We are in search of a seasoned engineer capable of providing expertise across various cyber domains. Occasional travel may be required for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams and initiatives in software security, cloud security, container security, mission assessments, orchestration and automation technologies, spacecraft cyber analytics, and continuous monitoring.
  • Contribute directly to cybersecurity prototype initiatives and provide cybersecurity/system security engineering support to Aerospace Program Office clients. Aid in developing and delegating project tasks to junior engineers.
  • Guide junior personnel and interns throughout the year, assisting with intern projects during the summer season.
  • Assess and explore new tools, technologies, and methodologies that could address challenges or inefficiencies in cyber operations.
  • Collaborate with other Aerospace divisions and external entities to innovate new technical demonstrations and capabilities.
  • Engage in research or technical development with government, industry, and academic partners to cultivate innovative capabilities.
  • Offer cybersecurity guidance across various program areas.

Qualifications for Success

Engineering Specialist - Cyber Security Architecture and Information Systems Security

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited institution in Information Security/Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, systems engineering, software development, embedded systems, or related disciplines.
  • This role necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government, requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • Proven capability to initiate and complete tasks, acquire new technical skills, mentor junior staff, lead technical projects, and effectively engage with a diverse range of organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities. Demonstrated innovation, creativity, and initiative.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira or MS Project, and comfortable assigning tasks in an agile environment.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages, including but not limited to C, C++, Java, and Python.
  • Experience in various cybersecurity domains such as application security, defensive cyber operations, vulnerability analysis, cryptography, network security, embedded systems security, secure FPGA/ASIC design, reverse engineering, zero trust architectures, or malware analysis.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, including the Risk Management Framework (RMF) or NIST SP.
  • Possession of at least one cybersecurity certification (CISSP, C|EH, SANS, etc.).

For the Senior Engineering Specialist - Cyber Security Architecture and Information Systems Security, the following additional qualifications are required:

  • Fulfillment of all the above requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading small to medium-sized engineering teams to achieve technical objectives.
  • Proven mentorship of junior engineers to cultivate relevant workplace and technical skills.
  • DoD 8570 IAT/IAM III Certification.
  • A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience across multiple engineering domains such as cybersecurity, systems engineering, software development, embedded systems, or similar fields.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous to possess one or more of the following:

  • An advanced degree from an accredited institution in cybersecurity.
  • A current and active Top-Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information access (TS/SCI).
  • Experience with SIEM tools, EDR/XDR tools, SOAR tools, scanning and reconnaissance, penetration testing, and integration of software products and/or data sources.
  • Expertise in bash, shell, PowerShell, and basic scripting on Linux and Windows platforms.
  • A solid understanding of satellite system design and technology.
  • Familiarity with various cyber tools such as Kali Linux and competitive cyber experience (e.g., capture the flag).
  • Experience with orchestration and automation tools (Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, SOAR, etc.).
  • Experience with various cloud services (AWS, VMWare, Azure, DISA milCloud).
