Position Overview

The Operational Technology Engineer within the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) division plays a pivotal role in supporting the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) sector. Reporting directly to the SCADA Senior IT Supervisor, this position demands a robust understanding of Operational Technology along with substantial hands-on experience in managing various cybersecurity tools and platforms.

Key Responsibilities


• Design, configure, develop, document, and test operational technology solutions that align with business or technology requirements, focusing on application reliability and cybersecurity fortification.


• Assess existing technology solutions to evaluate their suitability for new business or technology needs.


• Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless integration of new technology solutions with current systems.


• Analyze user requirements and translate them into actionable technology solution capabilities and designs.


• Administer and maintain cybersecurity solutions such as Industrial Defender, Dragos, CyberArk, and CA/PKI to secure CNI environments.


• Implement security measures, tools, policies, and procedures in accordance with the organization’s cybersecurity protocols.


• Provide support for all LI Transmission Operations platforms (SCADA EMS) and Distribution Operations platforms (DSCADA), along with associated applications like data historians, APIs, and web-based interfaces.


• Maintain CNI systems in data centers and remote control centers, including managing network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, servers), as well as performing maintenance and installations.


• Conduct network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.


• Offer internal customer support and troubleshooting for Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Teams, coordinating with product vendors and IT personnel for issue resolution.


• Adhere to established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness and approval of changes made to the environment.


• Participate in project teams for future CNI applications, infrastructure enhancements, and new technology deployments, ensuring compliance with CNI principles, IT policies, and NERC-CIP standards.


• Engage in 24x7 rotational, off-hours standby support for CNI systems.

Qualifications

Required:


• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technology field, with 4 years of experience in IT/Operational Technology (OT), or an advanced degree in a technology-related field with 4 years of IT/Cybersecurity experience.


• Proficiency in network security and information security concepts and technologies.


• Familiarity with TCP/IP and LAN/WAN connectivity.


• Proven knowledge of Information Technology principles, including infrastructure support, system administration, application support, and/or application development techniques.


• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make informed recommendations using critical thinking and sound judgment in a dynamic technology environment.

Desired:


• Experience with mission-critical technology solutions.


• Knowledge of VMWare or similar virtualization solutions.


• Familiarity with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.


• Understanding of scripting and programming methodologies.


• Relevant Cisco certifications such as CCNP Security, CyberOps Associate, CCNP Datacenter, CCNP Routing and Switching, or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).


• Experience in documenting technical solutions or business and system process flows using methods like engineering drawings or UML.


• Ability to troubleshoot effectively and make sound recommendations in a fast-paced, mixed technology environment.
