Position Overview:

The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard is seeking a Technical Team Leader to oversee our engineering group. In this role, you will guide a team dedicated to the development, maintenance, and operation of Hail, a comprehensive suite of libraries, data systems, and services designed for the analysis of genomic sequencing data. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a team of engineers, collaborating with scientific personnel, and contributing to the creation of both technical and product strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of engineers in their professional development.
  • Collaborate with scientists to ensure the effective execution of scientific initiatives.
  • Engage with various departments to resolve challenges impacting scientific research.
  • Enhance the technical skills and career advancement of team members.
  • Work alongside scientists and engineers to outline product and technical strategies.
  • Establish a recruitment strategy to fulfill future team requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in managing engineering teams focused on distributed systems, databases, or data infrastructure.
  • Hands-on engineering experience in one of the specified domains.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to implement processes that foster an efficient engineering team.
  • Experience in collaborative and cross-functional environments.
  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
