Stress Engineering Services, Inc. stands as a leading provider of specialized engineering solutions and professional advisory services across diverse engineering fields. We are in search of a mid-level engineer to join our Plant Services Practice (PSP) based in our Houston or Cincinnati office. The PSP primarily caters to the petrochemical and energy sectors; however, our engineers may also engage in related domains such as aerospace, defense, manufacturing, and materials processing. The ideal candidate will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex challenges, including component design and analysis, integrity evaluations, failure investigations, repair strategies, and remediation efforts. A robust combination of technical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal) is essential.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate should possess a strong ambition to cultivate a thriving engineering practice in a dynamic, results-driven environment. They must be proactive and capable of working independently while also thriving in project teams. Mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers will be a priority. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Conducting and reviewing API 579 Level 1, 2, and 3 assessments
  • Performing stress analysis and mechanical design for various components, including pressure vessels, piping systems, and mechanical parts
  • Executing stress analysis using both computational and classical methodologies, correlating these analyses with instrumentation and strain gauge data
  • Demonstrating strong proficiency in FEA software such as Abaqus/ANSYS (mandatory)
  • Conducting field visits to client facilities to investigate client-identified issues and support business development initiatives
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports and proposals
  • Contributing to the company's growth by enhancing credibility through active participation in technical associations and code committees, as well as preparing papers and presentations
  • Focusing on refining, chemical, oil sands, pipeline, plant equipment, and other substantial engineering consulting opportunities
Qualifications
  • Master's or Ph.D. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution (the advanced degree requirement may be waived for candidates with 10+ years of relevant plant experience)
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a practicing engineer is required
  • Experience with a major oil company or consulting firm in refineries or chemical plants is preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) or the capability to achieve registration
  • Familiarity with API 510, 570, 579, 580, and 653, NACE, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes; knowledge of NDE methods is preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally and work in diverse environments
  • Travel may be global, and candidates must possess or be able to obtain a passport without restrictions
