Position Overview:

This position is integral to the New Shepard program, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to transport astronauts and research payloads beyond the Karman line, the recognized boundary of space. By focusing on operational reusability, New Shepard plays a crucial role in our mission to reduce the costs associated with accessing space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering tasks in line with established systems engineering standards and practices, including:
    • Creating operational concepts, requirements (both software and hardware), functional breakdowns, and system verification and validation.
    • Leading and participating in project assessments.
    • Formulating test strategies and plans.
    • Defining system behaviors within a comprehensive system architecture.
    • Developing approaches for specialty engineering, including operability, reliability, maintainability, and supportability.
    • Facilitating requirements-based verification processes.
    • Identifying and addressing deficiencies in existing processes, tools, and infrastructure, while continuously enhancing solutions.
    • Assisting in problem reporting and root cause analysis.
    • Performing change impact assessments.
    • Conducting system safety analyses and generating related documentation, such as FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs.
    • Supporting launch operations and ensuring mission readiness for human-rated New Shepard vehicles.
    • Utilizing Systems Engineering, PLM, and development tools such as DOORS, JIRA, Confluence, Windchill, Creo, and SharePoint.
    • Collaborating on plans and development activities within integrated product teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Demonstrated experience in system development and integration, preferably in the aerospace sector or with safety-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware and software development processes for complex embedded systems, such as avionics, spacecraft command and control, automotive systems, robotic platforms, and autonomous transportation.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous development activities independently.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain positive, professional relationships while fostering an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8-15 years of experience in aerospace engineering.
  • Experience in the design, analysis, testing, operation, and certification of aerospace safety-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with software and hardware architectures involving complex embedded software.
  • Experience supporting projects throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with development tools such as DOORS, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill.
  • Experience in defining and executing reliability, maintainability, and supportability initiatives.
  • Background in system safety analysis, including FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs.
  • Basic project management skills, including labor estimation and schedule management.
  • Advanced technical degrees are a plus.
