Position Overview

THOR Solutions is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Marine Electrical Engineer to provide expert support to the United States Coast Guard's Ship Design Team. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in specialized areas of Marine Electrical Engineering, including electric propulsion, machinery control, and power generation or distribution systems. Familiarity with U.S. Federal and commercial shipbuilding standards and regulations is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret electrical systems design drawings and ship specifications.
  • Draft electrical system specifications for various design phases and modifications.
  • Assess marine electrical systems and establish engineering requirements.
  • Create comprehensive system documentation and specifications.
  • Conduct various design calculations, including Electric Power Load Analysis and Arc-Flash Analysis.
  • Perform evaluations and studies on electrical circuits and power monitoring systems.
  • Generate reports and specifications related to electrical power generation.
  • Assess the impact of new electronics on overall system performance.
  • Review system design specifications and manage requests for modifications.
Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based, involving desk and computer work, with occasional visits to marine environments. Candidates should be prepared for tasks that may involve repetitive motions and navigating confined spaces.

Eligibility Requirements

U.S. citizenship is mandatory due to federal contract stipulations. Candidates must also be eligible for a DoD Secret security clearance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of six years of progressive experience in Marine Electrical Engineering, with at least five years in specialized fields.
  • Experience with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs is required.
  • Familiarity with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy Power Distribution Architecture and relevant design regulations.
  • Relevant certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) are preferred.
  • Proficiency in standard productivity software and strong communication skills.
