Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is essential in overseeing the financial strategies and operations of the institution, ensuring robust financial health and performance. The individual will provide direct support to the CFO in various financial management domains, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, asset/liability management, liquidity, investments, allowance for credit losses, financial and regulatory reporting, risk management, audits, and certain accounting responsibilities while assisting in policy and procedure updates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Planning & Analysis: Execute comprehensive financial analyses to deliver insights into the institution's financial performance and pinpoint areas for enhancement. This includes scrutinizing financial statements, comparing budget to actual performance, assessing profitability, and evaluating the financial ramifications of strategic decisions. Lead the formulation of the annual operating budget with the CFO's guidance, collaborating with bank leadership and key managers to gather inputs and refine assumptions. Identify opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement, ensuring alignment with the institution's strategic objectives. Provide management with visibility into budget variances to uphold budgetary discipline throughout the year. Enhance the financial planning and analysis function to deliver insightful and actionable management information by recommending improvements to the CFO.

Asset/Liability Management (ALM): Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of the Asset/Liability Committee (ALCO) reports, collaborating with the bank's ALM advisor. Responsible for executing the bank's ALCO model, ensuring adequate documentation for model assumptions and maintaining execution quality. Assist the CFO in devising strategies to optimize net interest income while adhering to strong risk management practices in line with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Analyze the effects of interest rate fluctuations on the bank's financial standing and support the CFO in developing and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks.

Liquidity Management: Manage the bank's daily liquidity position under the CFO's direction. Forecast cash flows to guarantee sufficient liquidity to meet obligations while maximizing profitability. This involves monitoring daily cash balances, projecting cash flow needs, and implementing effective cash management strategies. Prepare timely and accurate reports on the bank's liquidity status, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards. Assist the CFO in planning for contingent liquidity needs to ensure reliable access to liquidity across various operating conditions.

Investment Oversight: Support the CFO in managing the bank's cash management and investment initiatives. Evaluate investment opportunities to ensure alignment with the bank's risk tolerance and regulatory standards. This includes assessing investment recommendations and monitoring performance. Prepare regular updates and reports on the investment portfolio's status for the Investment Committee of the Board. Ensure accuracy in investment accounting, including postings and interest accruals, while staying informed on current regulatory and accounting requirements.

Allowance for Credit Losses (CECL): Oversee the execution of the bank's CECL model and quarterly allowance for credit loss calculations, ensuring adequate documentation for model assumptions and maintaining execution quality.

Financial & Regulatory Reporting: Accurately prepare financial reports for the CFO's review and approval, collaborating with the CFO to develop reports that meet the needs of bank management and the Board of Directors.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable regulatory and accounting standards, staying updated on regulatory changes, implementing necessary controls and procedures, and preparing required regulatory reports.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks that could affect the bank's performance and stability, including credit, market, liquidity, interest rate risk, and operational risk. Assist the CFO in implementing strategies to manage these risks effectively.

Audits & Examinations: Actively assist or lead assigned portions of bank audits and examinations.

Policy & Procedures Development: Collaborate with the CFO in reviewing and preparing annual policy recommendations for the Board of Directors, enhancing bank procedures as necessary.

Management Committees Participation: Attend Asset/Liability Management Committee (ALCO) meetings and other relevant meetings as required.

Support for Bank Products/Services: Maintain knowledge of current bank products and services, utilizing them to fully understand their features and benefits for effective communication with customers.

Community Engagement: Actively participate in community organizations and events, representing the bank in the community.

Professional Development: Engage in industry trade group meetings and educational programs to stay informed on current issues affecting bank operations and job performance.

Other Responsibilities: Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality, handle inquiries professionally, attend bank meetings, and participate in training to enhance skills relevant to the position. Uphold the bank's core values and perform additional duties as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7+ years of experience in banking, financial management, and accounting.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, banking, accounting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively to manage competing priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and excellence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), with hands-on experience in spreadsheet and/or database management.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver's license and access to a serviceable automobile with proper insurance as required by state law.
  • Ability to lift files and documents weighing approximately 20 pounds.
  • Capability to spend extended periods operating a computer and communicating via telephone.
  • Strong written communication skills, including report writing.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workflow, managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills for both short-term and long-term resolutions.
