Job Overview

The Senior Accountant is responsible for executing comprehensive accounting functions for a designated portfolio of properties. This role encompasses various facets of financial management within the organization, ensuring the maintenance of accurate financial reports, records, and ledgers. The position involves preparing and analyzing budgets, as well as performing essential bookkeeping tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure precise and timely month-end closing, including the preparation and entry of monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, and calculations of owner distributions.
  • Review all deposits for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile all checking, savings, and investment accounts.
  • Compile mid-month and end-of-month management billing to facilitate property invoicing.
  • Maintain balance sheets for accurate reporting of monthly financials and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Analyze and monitor utility expenses, distributing reports to benchmark properties and evaluate overall performance.
  • Oversee the electronic Purchase Order Processing system.
  • Manage the internal electronic invoice payment procedure.
  • Supervise two Accounts Payable Specialists.
  • Assist in training new employees or introducing new responsibilities to financial staff.
  • Handle payroll processing, including online submission of employee payroll and recording in the accounting and billing system.
  • Maintain employee personnel files, including onboarding paperwork, reviews, and compensation changes.
  • Manage the onboarding and offboarding processes for employees.
  • Oversee employee benefits management.
  • Facilitate draw disbursements to owners for tax payments and monthly draws.
  • Compile year-end financial reports for tax preparation, providing accurate reconciliations and supporting documentation to external accounting firms.
  • Develop and implement consistent and reliable accounting operations processes and systems.
  • Analyze current procedures and recommend necessary changes to enhance accounting practices.

Education & Experience: A Bachelor's degree in accounting is required, along with a minimum of one to three years of experience in accounting and financial statement preparation. Experience in property management is preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and accounting software, particularly Yardi Voyager. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of multitasking and prioritizing to meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of cash forecasting, planning, and management, along with experience in interpreting financial statements. Self-motivated and able to work independently.
