Job Overview

The Plant Engineer operates under general maintenance supervision, focusing on the strategic planning of repairs, maintenance of machinery, and project execution in a manner that is both efficient and cost-effective, while adhering to plant policies and procedures. This role is pivotal in driving plant availability to its maximum potential. The individual will be expected to collaborate effectively within a team or independently on projects that align with the division's objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to all safety and environmental regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Contributes to the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in partnership with department and unit leaders.
  • Monitors plant operations and equipment to ensure optimal functionality, minimizing unplanned downtime.
  • Coordinates with various departments and unit managers to manage third-party service providers.
  • Oversees the maintenance and project work conducted by contractors during scheduled turnarounds.
  • Maintains updated equipment manuals and drawings for effective maintenance documentation.
  • Works alongside departments and unit managers to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints and cost management.
  • Initiates and promotes Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives aimed at enhancing plant performance.
  • Assesses and manages spare parts inventory needs in collaboration with units and procurement teams.
  • Conducts Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures within the plant.
  • Addresses design-related issues of plant equipment and seeks to eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Manages multiple Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects efficiently, safely, and economically to enhance unit and plant operations.
  • Prepares specifications, drawings, bid packages, and other relevant documents for the procurement, construction, and repair of plant equipment.
  • Identifies and engages technical/engineering resources for support, including process and reliability engineering.
  • Provides engineering assistance for daily operational activities.
  • Mentors and shares knowledge with team members to improve their technical competencies.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
  • Preferred experience in Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) plants, or metal and mining processes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and process flow diagrams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with AutoCAD (CAD) software.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written, essential for producing quality reports and detailed instructions.
  • Physical capability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods in challenging environmental conditions (high temperatures, humidity, noise, and dust), and to work at heights up to 500 feet.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the job site is required.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
