POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer II is responsible for ensuring the successful ongoing operations at LFI/Danner manufacturing facilities. Primary areas of responsibility include knowledge of manufacturing plant operations including lean manufacturing, 6S, and structured problem-solving mindset as a well as plant layout and cell design. Leading cross functional teams to accomplish "best in class" in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, to achieve organization objectives while maintaining a clean, organized, efficient, and high-quality work environment with respect for all employees. Support new process and equipment development applications to enable new and more cost-effective footwear manufacturing requiring a high degree of technical and professional competence. Develops and achieves project schedules working independently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION (Other duties may be assigned.):
- Promotes a safe, organized, productive, and efficient working environment.
• Responsible for new product introduction and development of associated processes into factory.
• Monitors production output and processes with an eye to utilizing continuous improvement tools including lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen activities.
• Optimizes factory layouts and value streams.
• Researches and develops methods to increase productivity and reduce non-value-added processes with increasing quality.
• Resolves production issues by determining the cause of manufacturing defects or reworks and making recommendations to correct and resolve the problems.
• Trains and mentor's factory employees in basic lean manufacturing and quality system concepts, helping them to understand, embrace, and utilize those skills.
• Works with maintenance to resolve any environmental issues that result from the manufacturing process.
• Identifies and implements key Lean/Six-Sigma metrics, estimating financial impact of projects, providing follow-up, and reports to management.
• Utilizes team-based approach to elicit employee participation in the development of systems that improve the business.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline related to manufacturing
• 4+ years of Manufacturing Engineering Experience
• 4+ years Lean Manufacturing experience driving Continuous Improvement (C.I.), including 6S and cell design.
• 4+ years of Shoe/Apparel Experience preferred
• Six-Sigma Green Belt Preferred
• Thorough understanding and working experience relative to the ISO 9001 Quality System requirements
• Proficient of Root Cause Analysis tools-Kata, Kaizen, DMAIC, 5 Whys
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Able to mentor, teach, and lead Quality initiatives and root cause analysis methods with little direction to implement solutions
• Must be willing to conduct oneself in accordance with Company's Core Values
• Ability to interact and communicates effectively
• Computer proficiency for data entry purposes
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Independently completes samples
• Proactively solves problems
• Trains other individuals and provides support

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The team member will frequently be required to use arms, hands, and fingers to handle, feel or reach. The sensory requirements for this position include vision, hearing, and touch. It also includes the ability to multi-task and problem solve under pressure.
Based in LFI's Danner Shoe Manufacturing's Portland, Oregon facility. The position is in a factory environment and operated on a shift work schedule. The position requires you to be present onsite however may consist of the opportunities to work remotely when available.
