Job Overview

First Bank and Trust Company is on the lookout for a Business Loan Specialist. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Vice President of Regional Management, focusing on the cultivation and oversight of a diverse loan portfolio that includes both commercial and consumer financing.

POSITION SUMMARY: The specialist will be responsible for assessing creditworthiness, originating commercial loans, real estate financing, and consumer loans. This includes reviewing and interpreting financial statements, tax documents, business proposals, and other relevant data. The role requires presenting loan proposals to the bank's credit committee and referring clients to other bank services such as Commercial Deposit Services and Wealth Management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and manage a personal portfolio of commercial loans.
  • Conduct interviews with applicants to gather necessary credit and financial information to evaluate loan risks.
  • Provide financial consultation to clients and collect up-to-date credit and financial data as required.
  • Engage in community outreach to attract new loan and business clients, representing the bank effectively.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities within the community through networking with business owners, real estate professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit loan requests for approval to the credit committee.
  • Oversee the management of the existing loan portfolio, including modifications and renewals.
  • Monitor the quality of the commercial loan portfolio, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards and asset quality.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, documentation, and record-keeping standards.
  • Coordinate with Title Companies, loan processors, underwriters, and real estate agents for transactions.
  • Promote and cross-sell additional bank products and services.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in banking or related fields

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Solid mathematical and accounting skills.

COMPLIANCE: The employee is expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of State and Federal Banking regulations relevant to their role.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements for this position include regular communication, frequent standing, walking, and sitting, with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The role is primarily office-based, with travel required to client locations and regional branches.
