Job Overview

First Bank and Trust Company is looking for a dedicated Mortgage Loan Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in assisting Loan Officers by managing the processing of new and renewal loans, ensuring compliance with the bank's established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse range of banking experience and the ability to implement, oversee, and monitor all necessary processes and tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare initial and final loan documentation.
  • Request credit assessments, appraisals, title investigations, and environmental evaluations.
  • Draft correspondence, organize and maintain records, and provide additional operational and administrative support as needed.
  • File and/or digitize relevant loan documents.
  • Conduct interviews with clients to gather credit and financial data.
  • Receive and process consumer loan applications.
  • Log and evaluate declined and withdrawn loan applications.
  • Track maturing loans to ensure timely renewals.
  • Review collection reports to minimize overdue loan payments.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients to facilitate a smooth loan process.
  • Process paid-off loans, including preparing and recording necessary releases.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence for the loan department.
  • Support operational functions for the note department.
  • Oversee loan exception tracking and resolution, collaborating with involved parties such as attorneys and title companies.
  • Engage loan officers as needed to resolve exceptions.
  • Verify insurance policies and monitor renewals.
  • Assist with NSF/Overdraft reports.
  • Provide assistance to customers regarding loan and deposit inquiries.
  • Support tellers and customer service representatives with general banking questions.
  • Process wire transfers for both loan and deposit clients, notifying the Wire Department accordingly.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding returned checks.
  • Answer phone calls and assist customers with balance inquiries, transfers, and payments.
  • Welcome customers and walk-ins.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and promote all First Bank and Trust products.
  • Cross-sell banking products and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Communications, or Marketing is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of customer service experience is preferred.
