Role Summary: The Youth Program Counselor and Transportation Specialist plays a pivotal role in leading our after-school enrichment initiatives. We seek experienced individuals to foster a structured environment that merges engaging activities with academic support, all while ensuring safety and promoting mutual respect among participants. This position caters to children from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

  • Uphold the mission of the Tampa JCC Federation by enriching the continuity of community values.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
  • Adhere to and advocate for all policies and philosophies in interactions with colleagues, volunteers, and the public.
  • Exhibit high standards of work ethics and professionalism.
  • Implement behavior management strategies as directed by the Youth and Teen Program Manager.
  • Engage with parents regarding child behavior and development.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records.
  • Actively participate in all scheduled activities with the children.
  • Stay informed about best practices in childcare.
  • Utilize positive reinforcement techniques in behavior management.
  • Communicate all parent-related matters to the Youth and Teen Program Manager.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of program spaces and activities.
  • Safely transport children in designated vehicles.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergency situations involving children.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive information.
  • Stay updated on all procedural and policy changes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Youth and Teen Program Manager.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience working with school-aged children (ages 5-12).
  • Experience in a licensed childcare environment is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED; current enrollment in post-secondary education or possession of a graduate degree is advantageous.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is strongly preferred.
  • Completion of a 40-hour Child Care Licensing Course is required.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record; must be at least 21 years old for insurance purposes.
  • Compliance with all background checks mandated by Child Care Licensing.
  • Annual physical examination as required for transporting children.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires regular use of hands for handling tasks, reaching, climbing, and communicating. Frequent standing and walking are necessary, with occasional sitting. The position may involve lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally. Employees may work outdoors in various settings.
