Job Overview

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager role at Connecticut Children's is a pivotal position tasked with directing and overseeing the hospital's General Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll Departments. This position is ideal for individuals with a robust accounting background and experience within the healthcare sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily functions of the general accounting, accounts payable, and payroll teams.
  • Review and authorize journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Generate accurate and timely monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Maintain cash flow forecasts to optimize cash reserves.
  • Ensure compliance with external reporting obligations to governmental agencies.
  • Coordinate the auditing processes for the hospital's financial accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and departmental workflows.
  • Develop and update policies and procedures for the Accounting Department.
  • Recruit, select, and mentor new accounting staff.
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Encourage teamwork and cross-training within the department.
  • Prepare departmental budgets and monitor financial expenditures.
  • Promote professional development and maintain expertise within the team.
  • Ensure quality outcomes and foster continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Design staffing plans for effective resource management.
  • Exhibit support for the organization's mission and core values.
Qualifications

Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversees a team comprising 3 Staff Accountants, 1 Accounting Clerk, 1 Assistant Manager of Payroll, and 3 Accounts Payable Associates. Indirectly supervises 2 Payroll Associates through the Assistant Manager of Payroll.

Education and Experience Requirements

Education: A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience in managing general accounting, accounts payable, and payroll operations. Experience in the healthcare industry is advantageous.

Licenses and Certifications

Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or an MBA in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge: Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ERP Systems.

Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ability: Effectively communicate with management and staff at all levels.
