Mainframe Business Analyst & Quality Assurance Specialist (Hybrid)

Position Overview:

Are you ready to become our next Mainframe Business Analyst & Quality Assurance Specialist? Globe Life is in search of a seasoned Mainframe Business Analyst & Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team.

In this position, you will leverage your combination of analytical, technical, business, and testing expertise to gather business and technical requirements and conduct testing throughout the sprint cycle. Reporting to the IT Senior Application Manager, you will empower your team to develop effective technological solutions and achieve significant business results. As a vital team member, you will collaborate across the organization to support one or more technology products that enhance the experiences of our agents, internal staff, and policyholders. You will work cross-functionally to ensure successful delivery across moderately complex domains and capabilities.

This is a hybrid role.

Your Contributions Will Include:

  • Acting as a development team member on a Scrum team, utilizing pi-shaped skills to proactively undertake tasks necessary to achieve sprint objectives.
  • Collaborating with Solution Architecture on solution design, grasping the overall vision and developing solutions that effectively utilize technology to meet business requirements.
  • Working alongside Product Management to comprehend business/technology needs and create/refine user stories, ensuring the Team Product Backlog is maintained with 1-2 sprints' worth of tasks.
  • Participating in refinement, story pointing, sprint planning, daily scrums, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Documenting process flows for current, transition, and future states, including identifying and analyzing gaps.
  • Understanding data concepts and knowing how to retrieve data, analyze its relation to requirements, perform data mapping, identify patterns, draw conclusions, and summarize findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Applying knowledge of system integration concepts to design, write appropriate technical/integration user stories, and conduct system integration testing across multiple systems.
  • Crafting functional and non-functional requirements in the form of acceptance criteria, utilizing the GHERKIN method.
  • Employing a variety of requirements techniques to enhance user stories where applicable (decision tables, wireframes, story mapping, etc.).
  • Designing, planning, and executing functional, non-functional, system integration, end-to-end, and regression testing.
  • Conducting successful playback, sprint, and system demonstrations that emphasize delivered value and solicit actionable feedback.
  • Identifying opportunities for reusability of requirements, testing, and design.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on supported products and technology.
  • Minimal travel required on an as-needed basis.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Information Systems or equivalent experience in a technical role.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a technical and quality assurance analyst capacity.
  • 2+ years of experience working on a Scrum team and executing tasks within the Scrum framework.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or related agile certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in the insurance sector, particularly in life, health, and annuity, is a plus.
  • Ability to embody the agile mindset, values, principles, and practices and excel on a high-performing agile team.
  • Capacity to generate innovative ideas and apply them to solve complex business and technical challenges.
  • Critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify risks, make informed decisions, and recommend solutions.
  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills, including the ability to influence others and drive problem resolution.
  • Ability to quickly learn new domains, products, and technologies.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey important information clearly, ask effective questions, and listen and synthesize information.
  • Clear and concise written communication skills, with the ability to adjust writing style for various audiences and articulate complex concepts effectively.
  • Teamwork skills, including fostering a collaborative environment, effectively resolving conflicts, and maintaining trust and respect among team members.
  • Familiarity with Mainframe functionalities such as CICS/On-line screens and the concept of batch cycle processing.
  • Experience with Mainframe programming languages is a definite advantage (COBOL or Easytrieve).
  • Intermediate SQL skills, with the ability to query and manipulate data for analysis and testing.
  • Understanding of DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD).
  • Experience with application lifecycle management systems (Jira is a plus).
  • Experience with test management systems (Zephyr is a plus).
  • Experience with load testing and scalability concepts.
  • Automated testing skills are a plus.
  • Experience with logging tools and log analysis.
  • Working knowledge of API technologies, including the use of Postman.
  • Understanding of UI/UX concepts and the ability to apply them to UI design.
