WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 5 PM to 1 AM

COMPENSATION: Competitive hourly rate

Position Classification: Non-exempt. This role is part of a unionized workforce represented by Local 8 of the Office of Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU).

This role is crucial in overseeing activities within the shelter, ensuring a secure environment for all participants. The Shelter Operations Coordinator will also provide emergency support as necessary and collaborate closely with other shelter staff, including the on-site Case Manager and the Shelter Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and harmonious atmosphere within the shelter.
  • Assist clients in completing necessary paperwork for their stay. Monitor individuals entering and exiting the facility, maintaining logs and documenting incidents.
  • Engage with local residents, manage donations, and provide outreach.
  • Ensure a visible presence within the shelter, assisting program participants and enforcing established rules and policies.
  • Oversee safety, security, and cleanliness within the shelter, contributing to a team that provides 24/7 coverage. Monitor entry and exit points to deter theft, violence, vandalism, and rule violations.
  • Perform light maintenance and janitorial duties in common areas, including kitchens, bathrooms, and grounds.
  • Assist in organizing shelter meetings and delegate daily and weekly tasks to program participants.
  • Prepare vacant units through light maintenance and cleaning, coordinating with vendors as needed. Maintain an inventory of essential supplies and place orders accordingly.
  • Address concerns and inquiries from program participants.
  • Provide feedback to the Case Manager and Shelter Operations Manager regarding ongoing operations and participant welfare.
  • Respond to emergencies, being on-call and conducting grounds checks. In case of emergencies, contact emergency services and notify management of incidents and safety concerns.
  • Must be capable of lifting at least 25 pounds.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • At least one year of experience in maintenance, customer service, or management.
  • Proven ability to work sensitively with diverse populations, including considerations of cultural, racial, gender, mental health, and socioeconomic factors, with a commitment to addressing homelessness.
  • Experience working with low-income individuals.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Must successfully pass background checks and drug screening.
