Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Animal Care Technician II to join our team at the Children's National Research Institute Comperative Medicine Unit (CMU). The successful candidate will provide exceptional care and husbandry for rodent species, maintain a clean and safe environment, and assist with various research-related tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily husbandry and sanitation for rodent species, including cleaning and maintaining holding rooms and ancillary areas.
  • Observe animals for signs of illness, behavioral changes, and dietary habits, and report any concerns to management.
  • Assist with the administration of health treatments prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with research teams to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 years of experience in laboratory animal care preferred.
  • AALAS certification at ALAT level required.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and researchers.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with web-based applications.
  • Knowledge of laboratory animal care and handling, as well as sanitation and sterilization techniques.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced research environment, with potential exposure to chemicals, zoonotic diseases, and physical hazards. The ability to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods is required.

This is an essential position, and the individual may be expected to work during inclement weather or emergency situations. Overtime and weekend work may be required during peak activity periods.
