Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified University Based Teacher Educator to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our faculty and students to foster a positive, diverse, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide written evaluations of student teachers' performance in accordance with VCU internship policies.
  • Counsel student teachers, visit them in their clinical experience site, observe and evaluate their performance, and provide feedback.
  • Confer with clinical faculty and cooperating teachers, and serve as a liaison between the University and area schools.
  • Participate in the Clinical Faculty training program during the first year of employment.
  • Develop coursework in CANVAS, teach coursework, and work with students to ensure their success.
  • Develop assessments for student learning outcomes, and experiential learning experiences in the course.
Requirements
  • Must hold a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional Certificate and Virginia Teaching Endorsement in one of the following areas: Art Education, Music Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, High School Science, Math, English, History, and Middle School Education.
  • At least 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work well with students and faculty.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use spreadsheets and online platforms.
  • Experience working with culturally and economically diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with Zoom or other virtual platforms.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse learning environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in content area and previous higher education teaching experience.
  • Experience using CANVAS, as well as Zoom or other virtual platforms.
