Psychiatric Support Specialist

At Parkland Health & Hospital System, we're seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our team. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for individuals in need of mental health services.
Key Responsibilities- Provide assistance and monitoring of patient activities and procedures under the direction of a registered nurse
- Collect and secure patient valuables and non-valuables to facilitate patient services
- Interview, counsel, and advise patients on their rights and establish rapport with the patient
- Clean and maintain patient areas to comply with established cleanliness standards
- Transport patients to and from test locations and transport medicines and other items to assist patients during their stay
- Monitor and document patient behaviors and care given to patients in seclusion, restraint, or on 1:1 to reduce the risk of injury to the patient
- Serve as a patient advocate by responding to patient needs and special requests, maintaining open communication, and honoring patient rights and confidentiality
- Conduct security rounds, inspect patient rooms for contraband, and perform quality management audits as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager or manager's designee
- Associate's Degree in a healthcare-related field preferred
- One year of experience in a healthcare setting, or one year of experience as a psychiatric technician, or one year of experience as a residential treatment/group home worker, or one year of experience as a nursing student with basic fundamentals of nursing
- Equivalent Education and/or Experience (High School Diploma or Equivalent required, or High School Diploma or Equivalent with CNA certification)
- Certification/Registration/Licensure: Current Heartsaver CPR course completion card, Satori Alternatives for Managing Aggression (SAMA) certification, level 1-4
- Skills or Special Abilities: Basic patient care skills, clerical/administrative duties, use of supplies and assigned equipment, ability to handle aggressive patients, ability to communicate effectively with departmental personnel, other hospital personnel, physicians, patients, and families
