North Shore Adventure Operations Leader

Department: Experience Management

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Status: Exempt

1. Job Purpose/Objective:

Starting Salary at $60,000

This role is responsible for the strategic oversight and execution of the North Shore Adventure programs at Roberts Hawai'i. The Adventure Operations Leader will manage various adventure initiatives, enhance customer interactions, oversee facilities, and supervise a dedicated team to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable experience for all visitors. This position is key in managing daily operations, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and fostering revenue growth through effective marketing and exceptional customer service.

2. Essential Job Functions:
  • Operational Oversight: Direct the daily activities of guided tours and rental services. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and implement industry best practices for all activities.
  • Act as the operational support for all events and activities associated with Roberts Hawai'i.
  • Assist in the creation and upkeep of activity-related materials, documentation, and procedural requirements.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to assess, implement, and review the strategic plan for the North Shore Adventure.
  • Represent the organization in local partnerships with clients, government entities, and regulatory bodies.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and lead a team of activity coordinators, guides, and support personnel. Cultivate a positive and collaborative team environment that prioritizes guest satisfaction and safety.
  • Stewardship Initiatives: Develop and engage in stewardship projects that align with the mission of Roberts Hawai'i.
  • Guest Experience: Design and implement programs aimed at enhancing the overall guest experience, ensuring enjoyable and memorable activities. Collect and analyze guest feedback to continuously refine offerings.
  • Plan and manage group activities and events catering to guests of all ages.
  • Continuously innovate and improve existing recreational programs to accommodate diverse age groups and abilities.
  • Customer/Vendor Relationships: Build and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and partner organizations to achieve shared objectives.
  • Oversee vendor contracts, monitor budgets, and establish operational standards.
  • Create an environment where community partners are engaged and committed to achieving collaborative goals set for the North Shore Adventure.
  • Inventory and Equipment Management: Oversee the management of equipment and inventory for all activities, ensuring proper maintenance and timely replacements. Coordinate with suppliers to guarantee the availability of necessary equipment and materials.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring financial targets are met. Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost efficiency.
  • Lead the research, strategic planning, and financial management of program facilities, equipment needs, risk management, and assessments for the delivery of departmental programs and services, including outdoor recreation and special events.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Work alongside the sales and marketing team to promote activities through various channels. Formulate and execute marketing strategies to attract new guests and retain existing clientele.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Enforce safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with activities. Conduct regular safety training for staff and ensure all safety certifications are current.
  • Lead teams of onsite/offsite staff and tour guides, ensuring the safety of equipment and processes.
3. Essential Skills (Minimum qualifications individual must possess when entering position):
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience). A minimum of 10 years of management-level experience in a medium to large organization is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills, strong listening abilities, and the capacity to build robust relationships. Must be adaptable, open-minded, and skilled in negotiation.
  • Proficient in computer usage, quick to adapt to new technologies, and knowledgeable about current trends. Must be able to leverage technology to enhance productivity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher).
  • Organized and efficient, with excellent time management skills. Promotes mutual respect and maintains a clean and safe workplace.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather information systematically and address root causes of issues.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as required by business needs.
4. Working Conditions/Job Environment:
  • Office setting with standard office equipment.
  • Potential exposure to eye strain and muscle strain due to prolonged computer use.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Occasional exposure to various physical conditions, including proximity to moving machinery and electrical currents.
  • Occasional exposure to atmospheric conditions that may affect respiratory health.
