POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Extra Help Deputy Sheriff, you will have the opportunity to proactively serve and safeguard your community, adhering to the Sheriff's Vision of comprehensive enforcement against crime and criminals, alongside dedicated care for victims, witnesses, and the community. Extra Help Deputies are primarily assigned to the Boating Unit, overseeing the waterways throughout El Dorado County. Additional assignments may be allocated at the discretion of the Sheriff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to a variety of service calls on the waterways, enforcing both criminal and civil laws.
  • Educate the public on safe boating practices.
  • Act swiftly in emergencies on the water, providing lifesaving assistance to those in distress.
  • Be available for weekend shifts during the summer months and potential emergency call-outs during the off-season.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have successfully completed a California POST Basic Law Enforcement Academy and hold a current California POST Certificate.
  • Ideal candidates will possess a California POST Basic Certificate, which is obtained after completing a probationary period in a recognized California POST agency.

The Sheriff's Personnel Unit will evaluate all applications to identify qualified candidates. Those who meet the minimum requirements will be required to complete a pre-investigative questionnaire. Qualified candidates will be notified of further procedures in the recruitment process.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is seeking applicants for Extra Help Deputy Sheriff II. This recruitment will establish a list for filling current and future extra help vacancies.
