Position Overview
As a Deputy Sheriff, you will have the privilege of serving and safeguarding your community through proactive measures, adhering to the Sheriff's Vision of comprehensive enforcement against crime and criminals, as well as compassionate care for victims, witnesses, and the public. Deputies may be assigned to various specialty units, including Investigations, School Resource Officers, Narcotics Detectives, Psychiatric Emergency Response, and Homeless Outreach Teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to diverse service calls throughout El Dorado County, enforcing both criminal and civil laws.
  • Conduct investigations into juvenile and adult criminal activities as the designated detective.
  • Oversee crime scene management and investigations, including witness interviews, evidence collection, and preservation.
  • Participate as a coordinator or team member in special projects such as drug enforcement and emergency services.
  • Provide Coroner/Public Administrator services.

Minimum Qualifications
Deputy Sheriff I:
  • Completion of a California POST certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year of appointment. Ideal candidates should be enrolled in a California POST Academy.
  • Obtain Peace Officer eligibility through the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) within six months of appointment.
  • Maintain firearms qualification.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Deputy Sheriff II:
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Hold a Basic Certificate issued by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
  • Maintain Peace Officer eligibility and certification through POST.
  • Possess and maintain firearms qualification.
Recruitment Process
The Sheriff's Personnel Unit will evaluate all applications to identify qualified candidates and determine the appropriate job class level. Qualified candidates will be notified of the next steps in the recruitment process.
