Duties and Responsibilities

As a candidate, you must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Designated or Random Drug Testing is a prerequisite.
  • Your resume should detail FAR part numbers and aircraft experience.
Qualifications

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • No more than two incidents involving Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the past five years.
  • A valid state driver's license.
  • Fluency in English.
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could affect job performance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Medical Requirements:

Positions in Aviation Safety Inspection have specific medical requirements. Applicants must meet these requirements, which will be assessed during the pre-employment process. Candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties of the Rotorcraft-Helicopter Aviation Safety Inspector role safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The minimum medical requirements include:

  • Good distant vision in each eye and the ability to read printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses are permitted).
  • The ability to hear conversational voices (hearing aids are permitted).
  • No physical conditions that would pose a hazard to themselves or others or interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in various aircraft.
Specialized Experience, Training, and Certification Requirements:

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG-9, FG-11, or FG-12 level. Specialized experience equips you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Include examples of specialized experience in your work history.

Additionally, applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Hold a valid or expired Flight Instructor Certificate with a Rotorcraft-Helicopter category rating or have experience as an instructor in an approved program.
  • Have provided a minimum of 200 hours of flight instruction in a Rotorcraft-Helicopter or an approved flight simulation training device.
  • Hold an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with a Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating or a Commercial Pilot Certificate with a Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating and Instrument-Helicopter rating.
  • Have a minimum of 1,500 total flight hours as pilot-in-command or second-in-command, with at least 1,000 hours in helicopters.
  • Three years of experience in an organization with an air carrier, commercial operator, or air agency certificate.
  • No more than two flying accidents in the last five years involving the applicant's pilot error.

Specialized experience at the FG-12 level involves a wide range of assignments or a few highly complex assignments, requiring planning, organization, and setting priorities while working without clear guidelines. This level of work is typically reviewed only to assess its impact on overall organizational objectives.

Specialized experience at the FG-11 level involves broader responsibilities and less clear guidelines, typically subject to review to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.

Specialized experience at the FG-9 level involves assignments with familiar aircraft, facilities, and equipment, typically subject to review and specific guidelines to ensure compliance with instructions.
