Overview

The Aviation Safety Compliance Officer plays a crucial role in managing the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This position is integral to the oversight of air carrier operations within the Cascadia Certificate Management Office (CMO).

Eligibility

This position is available to current federal employees within the agency.

Key Responsibilities

The Aviation Safety Compliance Officer is responsible for fostering a culture of safety by encouraging voluntary reporting of safety concerns and incidents by air carrier personnel. The officer will act as the primary FAA liaison on a designated Pilot ASAP Event Review Committee (ERC) and serve as an alternate on other ERCs as necessary. The role includes promoting effective communication and collaboration among various safety programs, including ATSAP, AQP, FOQA, VDRP, and LOSA. The officer will ensure that air carriers comply with regulatory standards concerning the ASAP. Responsibilities also include conducting inspections, surveillance, and certification tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
  • Submission of an SF50 form is necessary.
General Requirements

All applicants must demonstrate:
  1. No more than two separate incidents of Federal aviation regulations violations in the past five years.
  2. A valid State driver's license.
  3. Fluency in English.
  4. No substance abuse issues that could affect job performance.
  5. A high school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Standards

Applicants must be physically capable of performing the duties of the Aviation Safety Compliance Officer and must meet the following medical standards:
  1. Good distant vision in each eye, with the ability to read materials without strain (corrective lenses are acceptable).
  2. Ability to hear conversational speech (hearing aids are permitted).
  3. No physical conditions that could pose a risk to themselves or others.
For positions involving aircraft operations, additional requirements include:
  1. At least one year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft exceeding 12,500 pounds maximum takeoff weight.
  2. No more than two flying accidents in the last five years attributed to pilot error.
  3. Demonstrated professional flying skills in a simulator check to Airline Transport Pilot standards.
  4. A minimum of 100 flight hours in the last three years.
  5. Possession of a valid second-class medical certificate as per FAA regulations.
  6. A minimum of 1,500 total flight hours.
