Responsibilities

Job Summary

This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the facility's treatment philosophy, admission procedures, and the medical aspects of substance abuse and dual diagnosis care.

The Admissions Nurse is an integral member of the treatment team, providing a professional level of nursing care to patients with minimal supervision.

This complex role involves directing and overseeing unit activities and managing the assignments of ancillary personnel.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Successfully complete the nursing admissions process, which includes explaining services and associated costs, as well as conducting intake screenings to evaluate the client's situation.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service standards for both internal and external clients.
  • Review admission referrals and collaborate with navigators to ensure appropriate placement.
  • Triage incoming clients to determine the necessary level of care.
  • Communicate with the appropriate team member regarding non-life-threatening medical concerns to obtain guidance on the client's care plan.
  • Establish rapport with potential and current clients to identify their care requirements.
  • Create a supportive environment by offering emotional, psychological, and spiritual assistance to clients and their families.
  • Encourage client independence by setting care goals, educating clients about their conditions and self-care, and addressing any questions.
  • Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and evaluating health outcomes against established goals.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
  • Uphold infection control policies and medication administration protocols to protect clients and staff.
  • Document patient care services accurately in client and departmental records.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental continuity of care through effective communication of actions and ongoing needs.
  • Safeguard client confidentiality and protect operational integrity by maintaining confidentiality of information.
  • Manage nursing supplies inventory by monitoring stock levels and placing orders as necessary.
  • Enhance professional knowledge by participating in educational workshops and reviewing relevant publications.
  • Foster collaboration among the healthcare team by sharing information and participating in problem-solving efforts.
  • Adhere to incident reporting policies and promptly report any potential safety concerns.
  • Demonstrate effective delegation, organization, and coordination of assigned services.
  • Serve as a role model for nursing staff.
  • Provide relevant feedback to the Director of Nursing regarding staff performance and prioritize communication issues across departments.
  • Exercise sound judgment in exceptional circumstances that may pose risks to patients or staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives, including data collection and staff education.
  • Assist in training new staff members.
  • Collaborate with providers and nurses to ensure individualized treatment plans.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is essential.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with mental health, addiction, and treatment methodologies preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of managing confidential information and time effectively.
  • Proficient in technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical records systems.
Physical Requirements

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Active RN license in the state of operation is required.
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire, and maintain active certification at all times.
