Responsibilities
Job Summary
This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the facility's treatment protocols, admission processes, and the medical aspects of substance abuse and dual diagnosis care.
The Admissions Nurse plays a vital role within the treatment team, providing a high level of nursing care to patients with minimal supervision.
This position involves directing and overseeing unit activities and the assignments of ancillary staff during shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Successfully complete the nursing admissions process, which includes explaining services and associated costs, and conducting intake screenings to evaluate the client's needs.
- Deliver exceptional customer service standards for both internal and external clients.
- Review admission referrals and collaborate with navigators to ensure appropriate patient placement.
- Assess all incoming clients to determine the appropriate level of care.
- Communicate with the relevant team member to address non-life-threatening medical concerns and formulate a plan of action for the client.
- Build rapport with potential and current clients to identify their care requirements.
- Foster a supportive environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual assistance to clients and their families.
- Encourage client independence by setting care goals, educating clients about their conditions and medications, and addressing their inquiries.
- Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and evaluating health outcomes against established care goals.
- Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
- Uphold infection control policies and medication administration protocols to protect clients and staff.
- Document patient care activities accurately in client and departmental records.
- Ensure continuity of care by effectively communicating actions and ongoing needs among departments.
- Safeguard client confidentiality and protect operational integrity by maintaining discretion with sensitive information.
- Manage nursing supplies inventory by monitoring stock levels and placing orders as necessary.
- Enhance professional knowledge by participating in educational workshops and reviewing relevant publications.
- Cultivate a collaborative relationship within the healthcare team by sharing information and engaging in problem-solving efforts.
- Adhere to incident reporting protocols, promptly addressing any potential safety concerns.
- Demonstrate effective delegation, organization, and coordination of assigned services.
- Serve as a role model for nursing staff.
- Provide relevant feedback to the Director of Nursing regarding staff performance and communication priorities.
- Exercise sound judgment in situations where policy deviations may be necessary to ensure patient safety.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives, including data collection and staff education.
- Assist in training new staff members.
- Collaborate with providers and nursing staff to develop individualized treatment plans.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Education/Experience:
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Familiarity with mental health, addiction, and treatment methodologies preferred.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Capable of managing confidential information and effective time management.
- Proficient in technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical records systems.

Certifications and Licenses:
- An active RN license in the state of practice is required.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire and maintain active status.
