Responsibilities

Job Summary

This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the facility's treatment program and philosophy, admission protocols, and the medical aspects of substance abuse and dual diagnosis patient care.

The Admissions Nurse plays a vital role within the treatment team, providing a professional level of nursing care to patients with minimal supervision and consultation.

This complex position involves directing and guiding unit activities and overseeing ancillary personnel assigned to the unit and shift.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Successfully complete the nursing admissions process, which includes explaining services and associated costs, as well as conducting telephonic/in-person intake screenings to evaluate the client's situation.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service standards of care and productivity for both internal and external clients.
  • Review admission referrals and collaborate with navigators to ensure appropriate placement.
  • Triage all incoming clients to determine the intended level of care.
  • Communicate with the appropriate team member (e.g., Medical Director) regarding non-life-threatening medical and medication concerns to obtain guidance on the client's action plan. (In life-threatening emergencies, all staff members are authorized to contact emergency services.)
  • Identify client care needs by establishing a personal rapport with potential and actual clients and collaborating with others who understand care requirements.
  • Foster a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to clients and their families.
  • Promote client independence by setting care goals, educating clients about their conditions, medications, and self-care needs, and addressing any questions.
  • Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; and following philosophies and standards set by regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment in compliance with procedures, rules, and regulations; seeking assistance from healthcare support personnel as needed.
  • Protect clients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Document patient care services by charting in client and departmental records.
  • Ensure continuity of care by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and protect operations by safeguarding sensitive information.
  • Manage nursing supplies inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, and placing orders as necessary.
  • Enhance professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing relevant publications.
  • Foster a cooperative relationship among the healthcare team by sharing information, responding to requests, building rapport, and participating in team problem-solving.
  • Adhere to incident reporting policies and procedures, promptly reporting any potential safety issues.
  • Demonstrate effective delegation, organization, and coordination of assigned services, assigning responsibilities to designated staff as appropriate.
  • Serve as a role model for nursing staff.
  • Provide relevant communication to the Director of Nursing regarding staff performance levels, prioritizing communication issues across departments and facilitating collaborative interventions as needed.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion in situations where deviation from policy may be necessary to ensure patient, visitor, staff, or facility safety.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement data collection, analysis, reporting, and staff education.
  • Assist in training new staff members.
  • Collaborate with providers and nurses to develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with mental health, addiction, and addiction treatment preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage confidential information and utilize time effectively.
  • Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical records applications.
Physical Requirements

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Active RN license in the state of operation is required.
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire, and maintain active certification at all times.
