Job Overview

Title: Success Coach (Academic Advising)
Position Type: Part-time
Salary: $19.00 per hour

Working Hours:

This position requires up to 15 hours of work per week, scheduled between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. All work will be conducted on-site, with hours determined by the needs of the Advising Center, employee availability, and other assigned duties. Hours will be negotiated on a semester-by-semester basis and are not guaranteed each term.

Role Summary:

The Success Coach will act as a primary advisor for both new and existing students. This individual will possess knowledge of initial course placement, registration policies, basic financial aid, and campus resources, serving as the first point of contact for new students. Additionally, this position will assist current students with general advising, course selection, and referrals to campus support services. Special populations of students may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide advising services for new and current students through drop-in sessions, scheduled appointments, and events.
  2. Conduct advising sessions in person, via phone, or online, while maintaining on-site availability for students.
  3. Monitor and support special populations of students as assigned.
  4. Guide students in course selection based on placement test scores and academic performance.
  5. Assist students in adapting to the demands and culture of higher education.
  6. Support events and learning opportunities that help students achieve their academic and career objectives.
  7. Inform students of relevant policies, procedures, and campus resources to maintain good academic standing.
  8. Develop a comprehensive understanding of RACC programs (both credit and non-credit) to assist students in meeting their goals.
  9. Document all student interactions appropriately.
  10. Help students identify the most effective path to program completion.
  11. Foster positive relationships with Program Administrators and faculty to ensure accurate information is provided to students.
  12. Refer students to appropriate campus and community resources for additional support.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Required:

  1. Bachelor's Degree.
  2. One year of experience in a counseling or advising role within an educational environment.
  3. Experience working with diverse academic needs.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and internet navigation.

Preferred:

  1. Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
  2. Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  3. Experience in a community college setting.
  4. Understanding of course sequencing and educational planning.
  5. Familiarity with Colleague or similar college administrative software.
Skills:

Excellent communication and public speaking abilities, along with strong interpersonal skills. Capability to work effectively with individuals and groups. Proficient in written communication, particularly in report writing and business correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical operations and interpret data.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.

Physical Demands:
