Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is in search of a Chief of Government Affairs to oversee our advocacy efforts from our administrative office. This is a full-time position, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. Role SummaryThe Chief of Government Affairs will operate under the supervision of the Vice President of Government Relations and Communications (GRC). This individual will lead all advocacy and community engagement initiatives. Additionally, the role will support the Planned Parenthood Northern California Action Fund in electing champions of reproductive rights and promoting advocacy efforts in targeted campaigns.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a liaison to local, state, and federal elected officials, addressing legislative concerns.
- Assist the VP of GRC in formulating and executing PPNorCal's public policy and legislative strategies.
- Design and implement the political and electoral strategies for the PPNorCal Action Fund, ensuring compliance with reporting obligations.
- Collaborate with community partners to enhance support for PPNorCal's objectives, developing a program to foster long-term relationships within the reproductive rights movement.
- Oversee the Government Relations team, coordinating grassroots initiatives and communications on legislative and electoral matters.
- Work closely with Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America on political strategies.
- Support media relations, particularly regarding political topics, and serve as a spokesperson when necessary.
- Contribute to fundraising and special events for PPNorCal and the Action Fund.
- Meet departmental budget and performance targets.
- Commit to advancing PPNorCal's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
Manage the Senior Government Relations Officer, Senior External Affairs Officer, and Volunteer Coordinator, ensuring effective direction and evaluation of these roles in line with organizational policies.

- Extensive experience in political campaigning and advocacy.
- Deep commitment to the mission of PPNorCal.
A master's degree or ten years of relevant experience, including five years in a managerial capacity, is required. A minimum of ten years in public policy, legislative, or political roles is essential.
Language ProficiencyAbility to read, analyze, and interpret various documents and respond to inquiries from diverse stakeholders.
Mathematical SkillsCompetence in calculating figures and applying basic algebra and geometry concepts.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to follow instructions and address problems with multiple variables.
Computer SkillsProficiency in Word, Excel, and basic social media knowledge is required.
Other Qualifications- Demonstrated experience in government relations and community engagement.
- Commitment to quality healthcare and knowledge of reproductive health issues.
- Project management experience.
- Professional demeanor and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Positive attitude and willingness to engage with challenging topics.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000 annually, reflecting the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
