Position Overview

Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is on the lookout for a Chief of Government Affairs to oversee our advocacy initiatives from our administrative office. This is a full-time role, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. Role Summary

The Chief of Government Affairs will collaborate closely with the Vice President of Government Relations and Communications to spearhead all advocacy and grassroots efforts. This role is pivotal in supporting the Planned Parenthood Northern California Action Fund to elect champions of reproductive freedom and to enhance advocacy and volunteer initiatives in targeted campaigns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison for local, state, and federal elected officials, addressing legislative matters effectively.
  • Assist the VP of Government Relations and Communications in shaping and executing PPNorCal's public policy agenda.
  • Formulate the political and electoral strategy for the PPNorCal Action Fund, ensuring compliance with reporting obligations.
  • Engage with community partners to amplify support for PPNorCal's objectives, developing long-lasting relationships within the reproductive rights movement.
  • Supervise the Government Relations team, coordinating grassroots efforts and communication on legislative and electoral issues.
  • Collaborate with Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America on strategic initiatives.
  • Support media relations on political matters and serve as a spokesperson when necessary.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts and special events for PPNorCal and the Action Fund.
  • Ensure departmental budget goals and performance metrics are met.
  • Commit to advancing PPNorCal's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
Supervisory Duties

Oversee the Senior Government Relations Officer, Senior External Affairs Officer, and Volunteer Coordinator, ensuring effective direction and evaluation of their roles in alignment with organizational policies.

Education and Experience

A graduate degree or a decade of relevant experience, including five years in a managerial capacity, is required. A minimum of ten years in public policy, legislative, or political roles is essential.

Language and Communication Skills

Ability to interpret and respond to various documents and inquiries. Proficient in crafting speeches and articles, and presenting information effectively to diverse audiences.

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills

Competence in basic calculations and the application of algebra and geometry concepts.

Technical Skills

Familiarity with Word, Excel, and general web navigation, including social media platforms.

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000 annually, reflecting the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
