About the Role

WSP USA is seeking a skilled Transportation Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team.


This position involves providing expert technical support and direction for the assessment, enhancement, planning, engineering, design, and operation of roadways and their networks, as well as their interaction with various transportation modes.


Key Responsibilities

- Conduct capacity assessments and review permits to ensure compliance with design standards.
- Assist in the design, conceptualization, and construction of roadways, traffic patterns, and signal systems, while generating precise reports and documentation regarding construction specifications.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources including site surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and technical matrices for project development and execution.


- Engage in professional traffic engineering tasks, conducting investigations and inspections of existing and proposed site conditions, ensuring adherence to applicable standards and permits.
- Incorporate advanced modeling techniques and operational strategies to enhance safety and functionality for all users of the transportation system.


- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, ensuring compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements.


- Provide technical assistance on traffic studies, capacity analyses, and traffic plan reviews to ensure efficient roadway design and driver safety.


- Analyze accident data to identify potential improvements for roadways and intersections, enhancing safety for all road users.


- Prepare visual data representations such as charts and tables for effective communication of findings and analyses.


- Maintain quality control standards for measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting, ensuring precision in all project deliverables.


- Assist in the development and scoping of small to medium-sized projects, contributing to technical reports and presentations that address design and construction challenges.


- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gather information for future planning and design needs.


- Collaborate with other professionals and authorities on federally and state-funded transportation improvement projects.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related field.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in engineering with a focus on traffic design.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Familiarity with DOT advisory circulars and procedures.


- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, and design related to traffic control equipment and operational analysis.
- Experience in roadway planning, design, and construction.


- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of conveying ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.


- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating attention to detail and results orientation.


- Proficiency in technical writing and relevant design software such as AutoCAD and Microstation.


- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to derive effective solutions from data analysis.


- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.


Preferred Qualifications

- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Relevant professional licensure or certification.
