Job Overview
Summary
The Transportation Engineer will play a vital role in supporting civil engineering design projects with a focus on transportation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engineering calculations to support the design of transportation infrastructure.
- Oversee AutoCAD and/or Microstation drafting requirements for transportation engineering projects.
- Collaborate with governmental bodies, client representatives, and other professionals to gather design information and secure necessary approvals.
- Manage project budgets and timelines effectively.
- Prepare and manage project-related correspondence and documentation.
- Perform site visits to construction locations to ensure quality and progress are maintained.
- Draft and revise construction specifications and engineering reports.
- Calculate bid quantities and estimate construction costs based on plans and specifications.
- Exercise sound judgment and discretion in all work-related tasks.
- Undertake additional engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- B.S. degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in transportation and/or water engineering.
- Possession of a valid Arizona PE License.
- Experience with 5-10 completed projects in Arizona.
- Current residency in Arizona.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 3-5 projects completed for municipal clients.
- Familiarity with various municipalities in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
- Strong background in municipal transportation, water/sewer, or drainage systems.
- Experience with public projects beyond development.
- Active involvement in community organizations such as ASCE or APWA.
Licenses and Certifications
Arizona PE License is required for this position. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are also necessary.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability, statistical analysis, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Capability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical documents. Competence in responding to inquiries from clients, colleagues, and regulatory agencies. Proficiency in presenting information effectively to various audiences.
Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Skill in interpreting complex technical instructions and managing abstract and concrete variables.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Project software is essential. Experience with AutoCAD/MicroStation is highly desirable.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this position require regular sitting, talking, and hearing. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds and must have specific vision abilities to adjust focus.
Work Environment
