POSITION: ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and uphold compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA, and NIOSH, along with other relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Work alongside departmental leadership to perform job hazard assessments and enforce health and safety standards.
  • Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards.
  • Implement necessary machine guarding measures.
  • Propose corrective actions when safety standards are not adhered to by personnel.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities, equipment, and safety apparatus to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Perform and document safety observations from routine hazard identification assessments.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, or occupational illnesses to determine root causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain safety contingency plans (e.g., for fires, spills, etc.).
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable regulations set forth by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, RWQCB, NEPA, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Evaluate and interpret new and proposed environmental legislation and regulations, providing guidance to management.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits to ensure adherence to regulations from all relevant authorities.
  • Oversee and manage NPDES and other discharge permits/plans.
  • Maintain records and compliance requirements for permitted sources as defined by local AQMD.
  • Manage both hazardous and non-hazardous waste in accordance with DOT and RCRA regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Certified Unified Program Agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a focus on occupational health and safety or environmental engineering.
  • Experience in environmental and safety management.
  • Expertise in maintaining compliance with stormwater regulations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Proficiency in emergency response communication and incident management involving hazardous materials.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is not remote or hybrid; relocation may be necessary.
  • Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range: Environmental Health & Safety Engineer/Level I: $95,000 - $115,000 per year; Environmental Health & Safety Engineer/Level II: $110,000 - $130,000 per year.

Your actual level and base salary will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one component of the total rewards package at SpaceX, which includes eligibility for long-term incentives, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, and various other benefits.
