Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Explosive Ordnance Specialist to support the Hawthorne Army Depot in Hawthorne, Nevada. The successful candidate will be responsible for the production, storage, receipt, shipment, inspection, maintenance, or testing of explosive ordnance items or components to meet productivity and quality goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform manual, technical, and mechanically assisted duties involved with the destruction, production, storage, receipt, shipment, inspection, maintenance, or testing of explosive ordnance items or components.
  • Ensure compliance with all pertinent local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.
  • Conduct regular visual inspections to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Under the supervision of a leader or craft, perform the disposal of various munitions.
  • May be assigned to various areas, including Ammo Processing, Disposal Operations, Production Support, and Inventory.
  • Operate mobile equipment, such as MHE, vehicles, and machinery used in the manufacture or demilitarization of munitions.
  • May operate computer-based programs, such as the Logistics Modernization Program (LMP) and AIT scanning tools.
  • Accurately record and report all Munition and Munition component accountability and discrepancies to the appropriate authority.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and procedures as outlined in SOP, and inform employees of site instructions and safety protocols.
  • Assess the number of employees needed to accomplish work to ensure areas are not overloaded beyond explosive limits set by the Safety Department.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of EPA and waste handling requirements, as well as local regulations concerning environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Have extensive knowledge of ammunition and ammunition components handled at HWAD.
  • Remove trash and dunnage, and maintain a clean, secure, and safe work area, including pulling weeds, emptying trash, cleaning work and common areas, and restrooms in or around explosive operations buildings and/or magazines.
  • Perform additional duties as directed or assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver's license.
  • Must have knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics.
  • Must possess a Munitions Destroyer Certification.
  • Must be a United States or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) site access.
  • Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System and Common Access Card (CAC), and must pass local agency background check.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously.
  • Must be able to operate a computerized based terminal.
  • Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.
  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as required by the Master Training Plan.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be knowledgeable of computers and software.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be fluent in speaking and writing, using English language.
Safety Sensitive
  • This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan/Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program.
  • Position will be subject to initial and random drug testing program, medical exams and screenings for respiratory apparatus fit/wear as established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13, and DOD Contractors Safety Manual
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands
  • Work involves a small percent of sitting and the remainder of the time devoted to walking, standing, stooping, and bending.
  • Spends nearly all working time outside, in all kinds of weather and extremes of temperature.
  • May be required to do moderate lifting from 15 to 85 pounds for instruction and emergency situations.
  • Alertness is required to observe conformity to the various specifications as issued in instructions to accomplish the job.
  • Color vision is a very important fact to be able to distinguish various color codes for identification of ammunition.
