POSITION: ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and uphold compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines set forth by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental leadership to conduct job hazard assessments and enforce health and safety standards.
  • Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards.
  • Implement necessary machine guarding measures.
  • Propose corrective actions when safety standards are not adhered to by personnel.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities, equipment, and safety apparatus to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Perform and document safety observations during routine hazard assessments.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, or occupational illnesses to determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety contingency plans for emergencies (e.g., fires, spills).
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable environmental regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, RWQCB, NEPA, and other relevant bodies.
  • Evaluate and interpret new and proposed environmental legislation, providing guidance to management.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Oversee NPDES and other discharge permits and plans.
  • Manage record-keeping and compliance requirements for permitted sources as defined by local regulations.
  • Handle both hazardous and non-hazardous waste in accordance with DOT and RCRA regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with the Certified Unified Program Agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a focus on occupational health and safety or environmental engineering.
  • Experience in environmental and safety sectors.
  • Expertise in maintaining compliance with stormwater regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Proficient in emergency response communication and incident management related to hazardous materials.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires relocation if not already local.
  • Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be necessary.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range: Environmental Health & Safety Engineer/Level I: $95,000 - $115,000 per year; Environmental Health & Safety Engineer/Level II: $110,000 - $130,000 per year. Actual salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Base salary is just one component of the total rewards package at SpaceX, which includes eligibility for long-term incentives, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid parental leave, among other benefits. Employees receive 3 weeks of paid vacation and at least 10 paid holidays annually.
