As a Sustainability and Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our operations adhere to the highest standards of environmental health and safety.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish and uphold compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines set forth by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Work closely with leadership to conduct job hazard assessments and implement effective health and safety policies.
  • Monitor and assess employee exposure to various physical and chemical risks.
  • Implement machine safeguarding measures as necessary.
  • Provide actionable recommendations for corrective measures when safety protocols are not followed.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify potential hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of safety observations from regular hazard assessments.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, or occupational illnesses to identify root causes and recommend preventive strategies.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including fires and spills.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, and other relevant agencies.
  • Review and interpret new environmental laws and regulations, providing guidance to management.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Oversee NPDES and other discharge permits and plans.
  • Manage recordkeeping and compliance for permitted sources as defined by local air quality management districts.
  • Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management in accordance with DOT and RCRA regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Certified Unified Program Agency.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental health and safety management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a focus on occupational health and safety or environmental engineering.
  • Experience in both environmental and safety sectors.
  • Knowledge of stormwater regulations and CEQA compliance.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with machine guarding and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Experience in emergency response and incident management related to hazardous materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position requires relocation if not already local to the area.
  • Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be necessary.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range:
Sustainability and Safety Specialist/Level I: $95,000 - $115,000 per year
Sustainability and Safety Specialist/Level II: $110,000 - $130,000 per year

Your actual level and salary will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

In addition to base salary, you may be eligible for long-term incentives, including company stock options, discretionary bonuses, and participation in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

Comprehensive benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various discounts and perks.

Employees accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for 10 or more paid holidays annually.

Exempt employees receive 5 days of sick leave per year.
