Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Material Segregation Specialist to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Material Control – BATF Surplus Sales department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify the identity, completeness, and condition of excess and surplus property received for disposal.
- Ensure all materials are properly documented, including monetary value, stock number, quantities, and correct authorities.
- Follow safety protocols for handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Plan and perform complex work with minimal supervision, using considerable ingenuity, initiative, and judgment.
- Receive and process a variety of materials from on and off-base federal agencies.
- Research and validate material descriptions, costs, and other information to ensure accurate identification.
- Complete required entries on turn-in documents, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Prepare and attach information tags to materials, including stock numbers, nomenclature, and costs.
- Segregate and mark materials to prevent mixing and ensure proper handling.
- Determine commercial or scrap value by visual inspection, knowledge, or consultation with other personnel.
- Prepare documentation for material shortages and discrepancies.
- Assist equipment operators by spotting or unloading excess scrap or surplus material.
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, stow, or load materials.
- Operate a 50-ton scale to determine gross or axle weight of vehicles.
- Segregate materials for potential operational reutilization.
- Resolve discrepancies and initiate corrective action or return material for rerouting.
- Assist with scrap sales operations, including research and documentation.
- May be required to work overtime and maintain a good attendance record.
- Perform other duties of a similar level of difficulty.
- Work in close proximity to and/or in a chemical/munitions demilitarization facility.
- Report actual and potential safety and environmental concerns.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver's license and government security clearance.
- Read, write, and perform mathematical calculations, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and follow rules and procedures.
- Data logging and record-keeping skills.
- Perform skilled to semi-skilled tasks, including operating and maintaining equipment, tools, vehicles, and material handling equipment.
- Ability to work well with people and as a team player.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in property disposal operations or (2) years in munitions handling functions.
- Good writing and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literacy in common software applications and ability to operate general office equipment.
- Maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
Safety Sensitive Position:
- This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program.
