Position Overview

As a Culinary Preparation Specialist at Bar Louie, your primary objective is to ensure that every patron feels completely secure and satisfied while enjoying the delectable 'gastrogrub' crafted by you. Every dish on our menu starts with your meticulous preparation, and you are dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and precision. Your day may involve focusing on a single station for food prep, or you may alternate between dishwashing and line cooking based on the shift's requirements. You are efficient and quick, capable of transitioning between tasks without compromising quality. A Culinary Preparation Specialist plays a vital role in our gastrobar and the culinary industry. You thrive in a busy environment and take pride in your work, always ready to assist colleagues and willing to perform any necessary tasks, including cleaning and organizing. Your sincere concern for others contributes to the growth of our business, ensuring that our guests return time and again to savor their Bar Louie favorites, consistently prepared by you.

Position Responsibilities

  • Embody Bar Louie's Mission, Vision, and Values in your daily approach to work.
  • Exhibit an unwavering commitment to cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
  • Acquire knowledge of all prep items to efficiently prepare, label, rotate, and store each item with strict adherence to recipe specifications and required par levels.
  • Ensure that all food is maintained, stored, and served at the appropriate temperatures.
  • Control costs by accurately preparing each menu item.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, practicing cleanliness throughout your shift.
  • Work independently or collaboratively as needed, demonstrating flexibility and the ability to cross-train.
  • Follow directions and communicate effectively with management and peers to achieve objectives.
  • Complete opening and closing tasks efficiently, including managing deliveries, dishwashing, and setting up or breaking down the line to ensure readiness for success.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as communicated by your manager or the company.
  • Provide accurate availability, check the schedule regularly, and maintain consistent attendance.
  • Strictly follow all company and governmental health and safety standards, focusing on Human Safety, Food Safety, and Chemical Safety and Sanitation Standards.

Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills with managers and team members.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with team members and management.
  • Proficiency in reading and following written and verbal instructions.
  • Capability to memorize, prepare, and present all menu items according to specifications.
  • Skill in safely using knives and kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Commitment to maintaining high personal hygiene standards.

Education and Training

  • Culinary training or education is preferred.
  • Familiarity with restaurant preparation and cooking methods.
  • Food safety certification where required by law.
  • 3-6 months of relevant experience or training is preferred.

Basic Physical Requirements

While working in a gastrobar setting, team members must be able to fulfill the duties of the position. These requirements may include: lifting up to 10 pounds consistently and up to 50 pounds as needed, lifting from floor to shoulder frequently, twisting and reaching regularly, grasping objects constantly, and working in varying temperature environments for extended periods. Team members will stand and walk for prolonged durations, with frequent hand washing and sanitation required. Ability to use knives, slicing equipment, and other food preparation tools is essential. Team members must effectively communicate with guests and fellow team members and operate handheld and desktop devices.
